Probes

Probes are instruments used to check the quality of the dental surface, to see if it is intact or has fissures or incipient caries or to see any level difference between the natural tooth structure and a dental filling. The dental probe has a handle and a sharp, narrow tip, with an angulation of 45 degrees from the handle's axis. It is also used to check the knife edge preparations for their continuity.

A more rounded angle of the dental probe is used to check if the furcation of the pluriradicular teeth is exposed or not, and also it can check it's deepness, if the probe will go through the entire length of the furcation or less, giving an idea about the remaining bone structure around the dental roots.
